Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, and FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, were among the distinguished individuals and organisations honoured at the 2024 CICAN Awards.
The Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) recognised their outstanding contributions to the country’s economic growth through their innovative programmes, policies, and initiatives.
The award ceremony, which took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos on November 21, 2024, celebrated the achievements of various individuals and organisations in the public and private sectors.
The theme of the event, “Manufacturing: $1 trillion GDP target by 2030: Realities & Possibilities,” highlighted the importance of manufacturing in achieving Nigeria’s economic growth targets.
Other notable awardees included Moniepoint MicroFinance Bank, which emerged as the Fintech Company of the Year, and Coco Samba, which was recognised as the Product of the Year.
A Seniour Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Victor Opara, received the Sustained Advocacy to Industrialists Award, while Moses Osime was honoured as the Outstanding PR Personality of the Year.
In his congratulatory message, CICAN National Chairman, Charles Okonji, praised the awardees for their contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
He encouraged others to emulate their examples and strive for excellence in their respective fields.
The event featured expert discussions on the theme, with seasoned professionals urging the government to optimise tax collection, increase investment in the non-metallic mining sector, and leverage locally developed technologies to boost micro, small, and medium-scale industries.
These efforts, they argued, are crucial to achieving Nigeria’s $1 trillion GDP target by 2030.
CICAN, established 30 years ago, is an association of journalists representing various media platforms.
The organisation has played a critical role in promoting the real sector of the Nigerian economy through its members’ news reportage.
The 2024 CICAN Awards ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Okey Nwankwo, Communications/Media Relations Manager, Dangote Industries Limited; Enuma Eze, Corporate Communications Manager, Rite Foods Ltd; and Olufemi Ajadi, MD/CEO Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, represented by Bukola Adegboyega.
