Lagos Commercial Bus Driver Sets Self, LASTMA Officers, Vehicle Ablaze

A commercial bus driver and his conductor brutally attacked and set ablaze LASTMA personnel who were attempting to arrest them for violating traffic regulations in the Cele inward Mile 2 area of Lagos.

The driver, whose vehicle had been intercepted, resisted arrest with extreme aggression, pouring petrol on the officers and engaging in hostile confrontations and physical attacks.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, when the driver of a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus, with license plate LSD 355 CK, was stopped by LASTMA officials for violating traffic laws.

Unfortunately, one LASTMA officer sustained severe burns in the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

LASTMA has condemned the violence and intimidation, reiterating its commitment to preserving order and ensuring the safety of Lagos roads.

The agency urges all commercial and private drivers to comply fully with traffic regulations and respect the authority of its personnel.

In a related development, the Lagos State Government has launched a 24-hour Customer Service Centre, equipped with dedicated Toll-Free Hotlines, a Walk-In Complaint Centre, a Website, a Whistleblower App, and a New Department of Statistics, Research, and Data to enhance the operations of LASTMA.

The centre allows motorists to contact LASTMA via toll-free hotlines to report incidents, request assistance, or seek information on road conditions, including updates on the activities of LASTMA personnel.

The whistleblower app is designed to involve everyone in the state’s traffic management, enabling motorists and other road users to report dangerous driving and other reckless behaviours on the road.
