Invasion Threat: UK Warns Russia Against Installing ‘Puppet Regime’ In Ukraine

The United Kingdom (UK) says Russia will face severe economic sanctions if it installs a puppet regime in Ukraine.

Reuters reported that a senior British minister gave the warning on Sunday after the UK accused Rusia of seeking to install a pro-Russian leader in Ukraine..

“There’ll be very serious consequences if Russia takes this move to try and invade but also install a puppet regime,” British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told journalists.

Britain also said Russian intelligence officers had been in contact with a number of former Ukrainian politicians as part of plans for an invasion.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has dismissed the comments as “disinformation,” accusing Britain and NATO of “escalating tensions” over Ukraine.

The British claims came after the top U.S. and Russian diplomats failed on Friday to make a major breakthrough in talks to resolve the crisis over Ukraine, although they agreed to keep talking.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian adviser to the presidential office, said the allegations should be taken seriously.

The accusations, first made in a statement by the foreign ministry, come at a time of high tensions with the West over Russia’s massing of troops near the border with Ukraine.

Moscow has insisted it has no plans to invade but the British foreign ministry said it had information the Russian government was considering former Ukrainian lawmaker Yevhen Murayev as a potential candidate to head a pro-Russian leadership.

Murayev, however, has claimed ignorant of the notion that Russia wants to install him as Ukraine’s leader, in comments to British newspapers and other journalists.
