The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez, has extended his congratulations to Dr. Dayo Mobereola on his appointment as the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) by President Bola Tinubu.
In a letter personally signed by Dominguez, the IMO Secretary General acknowledged the efforts of NIMASA in developing a strong maritime sector in Nigeria.
He praised Nigeria for its significant investments and initiatives aimed at strengthening maritime institutions.
Dominguez highlighted the positive impact of Nigeria’s focus on enhancing maritime law enforcement and security, particularly through projects like the Deep Blue project and the C4i Centre.
He also commended Nigeria for its commitment to combating maritime piracy through legislation such as the SPOMO Act.
The IMO Secretary General expressed his support for NIMASA’s partnerships with regional bodies and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing maritime challenges.
He assured Dr. Mobereola of IMO’s readiness to work with Nigeria and other member states on various maritime issues.
Dominguez also praised NIMASA’s collaboration with the Interregional Coordination Centre (ICC) and the shipping industry in combating piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
He expressed his eagerness to work with Dr. Mobereola and his colleagues on addressing shared maritime concerns and invited him to visit the IMO in person.
