ICAN and NGX RegCo Restate Commitment to Fostering Transparency, Accountability and International best Practices – Organisers

ICAN and NGX RegCo have reaffirmed their dedication to promoting transparency, accountability, and international best practices in the private sector.

The inaugural corporate reporting awards ceremony, held on May 17th, honored the top 30 most capitalized companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) for their 2022 financial reporting.

The evaluation criteria focused on financial reporting, corporate governance, and sustainability reporting.

Dangote Cement claimed the top spot, receiving the Platinum award and the best-in-class award for excellence in corporate governance.

Airtel secured the gold award for financial reporting, while Seplat Energy was recognized with the Silver award for sustainability reporting.

During the event, ICAN President Dr. Innocent Okwuosa praised NGX RegCo for promoting better disclosures and reporting practices among listed companies.

He emphasized the evolution of corporate reporting, highlighting the shift towards incorporating social and environmental disclosures such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations.

NGX RegCo CEO, Olufemi Shobanjo emphasized the importance of transparency in driving economic growth.

He noted the increasing demand for ESG considerations in corporate reporting, driven by stakeholders’ expectations for accountability and ethical impacts on society.

Shobanjo reiterated NGX Regulation’s commitment to meeting stakeholders’ expectations for quality information access, ensuring that investors and the public have the necessary data to make informed decisions.

In conclusion, both ICAN and NGX RegCo are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and international best practices in the Nigerian private sector.
