‘I Beg To Differ’ Debate Tournament: Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola Wins 7th Edition Hosted by Nigeria Info

Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola of Pacific IBTD Comprehensive College has emerged as the champion of the seventh edition of the ‘I Beg To Differ’ student debate tournament, showcasing her impressive debating skills at just 14 years old.

The final round of the tournament, hosted by Nigeria Info, featured a heated debate between Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola and Adenike Adepetu on the topic of ‘Resource control is the solution to terrorism.’

Adenike argued in favor of the motion, emphasizing the importance of government control over resources to disrupt terrorist networks.

On the other hand, Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola countered this argument by stating that terrorism is rooted in complex socio-political issues beyond just resource control. She highlighted that ethnic and religious conflicts play a significant role in fueling terrorism.

In the second topic of the final round, ‘World peace is unattainable,’ Mercy argued that global inequality and the profit-driven nature of weapon manufacturers contribute to ongoing conflicts, making world peace seem like an unachievable goal.

Adenike, however, remained optimistic, suggesting that continuous diplomacy and treaties between nations could lead to world peace.

After careful consideration of the arguments presented, the judges declared Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola as the winner of the tournament. In the third-place debate, Ebitare Marvellous Kuku secured the third spot by defeating Adio Afolarin.

The competition was fierce, but Ajekigbe Mercy Eyitola’s exceptional debating skills ultimately earned her the title of champion.
