Historic St. Peter’s Catholic School in Kwara State Gets a Facelift

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, philanthropists from Okerimi Oro in Kwara State have come together to launch a massive intervention program aimed at transforming the learning environment at St. Peter’s Catholic Local Government Education Authority (L.G. E.A) Primary School.

This iconic school, founded in 1942, has been a beacon of knowledge and growth in the community for over eight decades, shaping the minds of countless pupils.

The community’s Education and Vocational Committee, in collaboration with key stakeholders, recently launched a fundraising campaign to support infrastructure development at the school.

This initiative is a testament to the community’s commitment to providing quality education and promoting a conducive learning environment for its children.

St. Peter’s Catholic School has a proud history of producing high-achieving professionals who have excelled in various fields in the society.

However, despite its illustrious past, the school has been struggling with inadequate infrastructure, a legacy of unsustainable interventions by previous governments.

The school’s buildings are in disrepair, the fencing is incomplete, and many classrooms are in dire need of renovation.

During the school’s 82nd anniversary celebration, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Victoria Kehinde Afolayan, appealed to philanthropists, community stakeholders, and the government to donate generously towards the total renovation of the school’s failing infrastructure.

Afolayan acknowledged the efforts of past teachers and staff who have contributed to the school’s rich legacy, while also highlighting the need for urgent intervention to ensure the school’s continued relevance.

The school’s head teacher, M Fabayo, commended the visionary founders of the school and expressed gratitude to the community for their support.

Fabayo listed several achievements, including an increase in student population, renovation of classrooms, and the provision of well-furnished ICT training facilities courtesy of the Kwara State Government under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration.

Mother of the day, Margaret Yemisi Izuora, praised the school’s management for sustaining learning opportunities and driving students to excel.

She emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between community-based organizations, individuals, and the government to maintain a conducive learning environment.

Adebayo Babalola, a community counselor, advocated for a proactive counseling approach to improve learning outcomes and instill proper morals in students.

Babalola’s program, ‘The Miners Interface’ (TMI), has provided leadership pathways for the community, helping many students and young people to retrace their steps and embrace education and meaningful community engagement.

As St. Peter’s Catholic School embarks on this exciting journey of transformation, the community’s commitment to providing quality education and promoting a conducive learning environment is a shining example of what can be achieved through collective effort and determination.
