Heightened Tensions in Niger Delta Poses Significant Risk to Nigeria’s Economy – Nigeria Riverine Security Boss

By Newsshelve Correspondent.

The Commandant General of Riverine Security, Bibi Oduku, has asked President Bola Tinubu to reconsider suspending the Rivers State Governor owing to heightened tensions and threats in the Nigerian Delta area.

In a statement made available to Newsshelve on Sunday, Commander Oduku highlighted the threats to include planned attacks by militant groups on federal government properties which, according to him, pose a significant risk to Nigeria’s economy.

“The situation is dire, with the potential for loss of life among innocent citizens and military personnel deployed for peacekeeping.” He said.

Meanwhile Brigadier General Paul Boroh, former Presidential Amnesty Boss, has cautioned youths in the Niger Delta region against allowing anger to dictate their actions, emphasizing that President Tinubu is not a proponent of violence.

Commander Oduku further disclosed that to mitigate the situation, Riverine Security Officers are working closely with the Nigerian Military and other security agencies to prevent unauthorized groups from engaging in illegal activities.

“Captains Eric Foutoru and ThankGod Oprom have pledged their support to the military in calming the security situation in Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.”

The destruction of oil pipelines in Rivers State and Akwa Ibom has also been condemned by Commander Oduku, who has promised to bring perpetrators to justice.

Citizens of Rivers State and the Niger Delta have been advised to embrace peace and allow the law to take its course.

The Niger Delta region is crucial to Nigeria’s economy, accounting for the majority of the country’s oil production. Any disruption to the region’s stability could have devastating impacts on the already fragile economy.
