The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Marine Police Command, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba, has emphasized that strict compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is essential to enhancing Nigeria’s participation in global trade.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the General Conference on Maritime Security in Lagos, AIG Garba highlighted the importance of security and compliance standards at Nigeria’s ports.

The conference, themed “Maritime Security: A Collaborative Approach to Enhancing Nigeria’s Blue Economy,” brought together stakeholders to assess the implementation of the ISPS Code and identify areas for improvement.

AIG Garba commended the ISPS Unit of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for creating a platform for dialogue and strategic partnership.

He noted that greater maritime security would lead to increased maritime traffic, stimulate economic growth, and create new opportunities across the sector.

The AIG pledged the continued support of the Maritime Police Command in working alongside all stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria’s ports and inland waterways.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration in enhancing maritime security and promoting Nigeria’s blue economy.

The conference highlighted the importance of maritime security and ISPS compliance in boosting Nigeria’s global trade.
