Fraud Alert: CBN Issues Warning on Fake Contract Awards and Funding

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a warning to the public about fraudulent activities involving individuals claiming to have received award letters for construction contracts and special financial interventions on behalf of the bank.

A statement signed by CBN’s spokesperson, Hakama Sidi Ali, said the claims are entirely false and are part of an ongoing scam aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to the statement, the individuals behind these fraudulent assertions are motivated by the desire to deceive and exploit Nigerians.

The apex bank emphasized that it has not issued any contract awards for construction works or special financial interventions to any third parties.

“The CBN has halted its involvement in direct development interventions and special project funding initiatives under its current management.

“Additionally, it has not authorized any announcements or notices related to such interventions on social media or other platforms.

“The bank remains committed to maintaining monetary and price stability, alongside fostering a sound and efficient financial system in Nigeria.” The statement further read.

The CBN urges Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or publications to the relevant law enforcement agencies promptly.

The apex bank’s warning is part of its efforts to protect Nigerians from rising fraudulent schemes and ensure trust in the financial system.

By being informed and vigilant, the public can play a role in preventing these scams and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system.
