The Aliko Dangote Foundation has initiated a National Food Intervention Programme with the goal of distributing over one million 10kg bags of rice across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria’s 36 states and Federal Capital Territory.
This initiative is a significant step towards addressing the ongoing economic challenges faced by many.
The distribution of rice will kick off in Kano and Lagos States, with ceremonies marking the beginning of the programme before expanding to all other states and the FCT over the next two weeks.
Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation and Group President of Dangote Industries Limited, highlighted the importance of compassion and generosity during the holy month of Ramadan at the flag-off event in Kano State on March 23, 2024.
Mr. Dangote announced that the Aliko Dangote Foundation would be disbursing 120,000 bags of rice in Kano alone, with the distribution being handled by the Kano Hisbah Board.
Fatima Aliko Dangote, the Group Executive Director, Commercial, DIL, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to supporting poor and vulnerable Nigerians, stating that the programme is the latest in a series of impactful philanthropic efforts.
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, commended Aliko Dangote for his generosity and urged other wealthy individuals to follow his example in supporting the government’s efforts to provide relief to those facing economic hardship.
The Governor also announced the state’s procurement of grains for distribution across all local government areas.
Beneficiaries of the rice distribution in Kano expressed their gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a much-needed intervention to improve their livelihoods.
