FIRS Opens Tax Offices on Weekends to Ease CIT Filing Rush

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed the extension of tax office operations to weekends for the month of June.

According to a statement by Dare Adekanmbi, Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, the move is part of the agency’s commitment to matching its customer-centric policy with tangible action.

Tax offices will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays throughout June.

The weekend service, which started on June 14, will end on Sunday, June 29, 2025. This initiative aims to help companies meet the June 30 deadline for filing their tax returns.

The FIRS Chairman’s decision is driven by the need to ease the process for taxpayers, enhance service delivery, and maximize tax collection during the peak period of the Companies Income Tax (CIT) filing season.

Many taxpayers with a financial year ending December 31 are expected to file their tax returns by June 30.

Upon assuming office, FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji reorganized tax operations to simplify tax payment processes, transforming the agency from a mere tax collector to a public-facing service provider.

This move reflects the agency’s commitment to improving taxpayer experience and service delivery.
