FIRS Introduces Innovative USSD Code for Taxpayer Convenience

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has launched an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code *829# to improve taxpayers’ satisfaction, making Nigeria one of the few African countries to deploy this technology for simplifying tax payment processes.

This innovative initiative enables taxpayers to access various services in real-time, without the need for internet access, using any mobile telecommunication network.

Taxpayers can now retrieve their Taxpayer Identification Number, verify their Tax Clearance Certificate, obtain information on tax types and rates, locate the nearest FIRS office, and get answers to general tax-related inquiries.

In addition to the USSD code, FIRS has also launched the Customer Centricity Guide, a booklet outlining policies, processes, and procedures to prioritize taxpayers’ needs.

This guide ensures that taxpayers are treated with respect, professionalism, and efficiency, recognizing them as valued partners in nation-building.

FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, emphasized the agency’s commitment to simplifying tax administration and ensuring seamless engagement with taxpayers.

He encouraged taxpayers to utilize the USSD code and provide feedback to enhance the service.

Nnenna Akajemeli, National Coordinator of Servicom, praised FIRS’ efforts, noting that the initiatives are evident in simplifying tax and delighting citizens and taxpayers with quality service.

Loveth Onanuga, FIRS Director of Taxpayers’ Service Department, highlighted the agency’s recognition of customer-centricity, aiming to exceed customer expectations and provide exceptional service.

The USSD code and Customer Centricity Guide mark a significant milestone in FIRS’ quest to create an efficient, transparent, and responsive tax system.

With these innovations, taxpayers can expect a more streamlined and satisfactory experience, fostering trust and voluntary participation in tax compliance.

This launch is part of the agency’s activities for Customer Service Week, themed “Above and Beyond,” reflecting FIRS’ dedication to putting taxpayers first and providing exceptional service.
