Fintech Innovators Gather in Lagos for Ecobank Challenge Semi-Finals

Ecobank, the pan-African bank, is set to host the 2024 Ecobank Fintech Challenge semi-final event at its Pan African Center in Lagos, Nigeria.

The event, scheduled for August 14, will bring together top fintech innovators from across Africa to compete for a spot in the Grand Finale and a chance to win a $50,000 prize and a place in the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program.

The Ecobank Fintech Challenge, now in its fifth edition, received over 1,550 applications from 70 countries, with 40 semi-finalists selected to participate in the event.

A jury will announce the top finalists at the semi-final event, who will then compete in the Grand Finale for the top prize and a spot in the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program.

The Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program offers a range of benefits, including access to Ecobank’s cutting-edge APIs, priority access to Ecobank’s Venture Capital partners for funding exploration, and the opportunity to integrate their solutions with Ecobank’s expansive 35-country Pan-African network.

Djiba Diallo, Senior Fintech Advisor at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), expressed his excitement about the quality of applications this year, saying, “I am impressed by the quality of this year’s applications.

I recognize the African talents and innovations. I also congratulate the semi-finalists and look forward to an interesting semi-final event in Lagos, Nigeria.”

Bolaji Lawal, Managing Director/Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, welcomed the opportunity to host the semi-finals, saying, “Hosting this year’s Fintech Challenge semifinal is a great honour for us.

We are thrilled to welcome prominent fintech players from across the continent and are particularly proud of the strong participation from Nigerian fintechs.”

The event will also feature a panel discussion with the Nigerian fintech community, providing an opportunity for networking and exploring partnership opportunities.

The Ecobank Fintech Challenge is supported by a range of partners, including Huawei, Proparco, TechCabal, BlueSpace, Afrilabs, Africa Fintech Network, MEST Africa, Naija Startups, Expand in Africa, and Founders Africa.
