Environmental Conservation: Polaris Bank Teams Up with University of Ibadan and Nigerian Conservation Foundation           

Polaris Bank Limited has taken a significant step towards promoting environmental conservation in Nigeria by partnering with the University of Ibadan and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation on a tree planting initiative.

This collaboration is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts, aimed at contributing positively to the environment and communities.

Abimbola Ozomah, Polaris Executive Director, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the United Nations’ ecosystem restoration goals, focusing on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

The bank has committed to sustainable practices and land restoration through the nationwide planting of economic trees.

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s Senior Manager, Adedayo Memudu, emphasized the organization’s commitment to partnership development and encouraging Nigerians to appreciate nature and live in harmony with it.

The University of Ibadan’s Registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to conserving campus vegetation and promoting a greener environment.

The university has initiated a project to plant 1,000 trees, which will be adopted by well-meaning Nigerians.

Polaris Bank has already kick-started its nationwide tree planting initiative, beginning with Tai Solarin University of Education in Ogun State on July 1, 2024, followed by Ajingi Community Reserve in Kano State on August 30, and the University of Ibadan on October 3.

This initiative demonstrates the bank’s proactive approach to addressing environmental and social issues.

Polaris Bank supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principles, and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative’s Principles of Responsible Banking.

The partnership between Polaris Bank, the University of Ibadan, and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation serves as a model for collaborative efforts towards environmental conservation and sustainability in Nigeria.

The tree planting initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, promoting land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.This effort will also contribute to the United Nations’ ecosystem restoration goals.
