The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba, has tasked bonded terminal managers across Lagos to deepen their collaboration with the Police to enhance maritime security and ensure strict compliance with existing regulations.
AIG Garba made this call during a recent engagement session with terminal managers at the Command Headquarters in Obalende, Lagos.
The meeting aimed to foster mutual understanding, strengthen partnerships, and address key security concerns within Nigeria’s port environment.
AIG Garba underscored the critical role bonded terminals play in the overall security and economic stability of the maritime sector.
He emphasized that effective policing of the maritime domain requires active cooperation from terminal operators who serve as frontline stakeholders.
The AIG reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining an open-door policy, assuring the managers of continuous support in securing their operations.
However, he warned against any acts of economic sabotage or criminal activity, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance and vowing to bring violators to justice.
The terminal managers acknowledged the importance of security collaboration and pledged their support towards achieving a safer, more compliant maritime industry.
AIG Garba stated, “This Command remains committed to working closely with terminal operators to ensure law and order within the maritime space. We must all work hand in hand to protect our national assets and sustain investor confidence.”
The meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing maritime security and promoting collaboration between the Maritime Police Command and bonded terminal managers.
With the commitment of both parties, Nigeria’s maritime industry is poised to become safer and more secure, attracting increased investment and economic growth.
