Ope Babalola, the Managing Director of Webb Fontaine Nigeria Limited, has announced a strategic partnership with Starlink, owned by Elon Musk, to improve port efficiency by leveraging faster and more reliable internet connectivity.
Speaking at the JournalNG summit in Lagos, Babalola revealed that the collaboration aims to enhance the user experience at Nigerian ports by optimizing the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) server.
He emphasized the strong relationship between Webb Fontaine and the NCS, highlighting their shared commitment to customs success through efficient revenue collection and loss prevention.
During his presentation on the Port Community System (PCS), Babalola commended President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to establish a National Single Window (NSW), noting its potential to benefit the country significantly.
He emphasized the importance of the PCS in streamlining port operations and engaging all stakeholders effectively to achieve better trade facilitation and cargo clearance.
Babalola urged stakeholders to support the PCS initiative and advocated for regular town hall meetings to promote awareness and collaboration among NPA, customs, and other relevant parties.
In promoting balanced trade, Babalola stressed the need to encourage exporters to facilitate seamless cargo movement and leverage Nigeria’s vast trade data effectively.
Chairman of the event, Lucky Amiwero, called on Webb Fontaine to enhance its server capabilities for efficient cargo clearance, while also urging the Nigeria Customs Service to prioritize training and retraining of officers on clearance procedures.
Amiwero emphasized the importance of collaboration between customs and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to facilitate seamless trade operations and ensure a smooth flow of goods.
