Ecobank Nigeria Empowers Lagos Schoolchildren with AI and Digital Skills Training

Ecobank Nigeria, a leading pan-African banking group, has launched an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills training program for children in Lagos schools.

This initiative, themed “Ignite Learning with AI,” aims to enhance foundational learning, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills among young Nigerians.

In partnership with Opolo Global, Ecobank employees volunteered their time and expertise to deliver the training at Zion Star School in Lagos.

The program is part of Ecobank’s annual Ecobank Day activities, a flagship social initiative encouraging employees to give back to their communities.

Oluwafemi Ajayi, Head of Product Development and Lagos Operations at Opolo Global, praised Ecobank’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of AI and robotics education for children.

“This training equips children to navigate the digital age and underscores the transformative potential of AI in education, business efficiency, and decision-making,” he said.

Ecobank emphasized the significance of equipping Nigerian children with essential literacy, numeracy, and digital skills at an early age.

“It enables them to excel academically, prepares them for a rapidly changing digital landscape, and broadens their opportunities in life and employment,” the bank stated.

The training and mentoring initiatives align with Ecobank’s three-year campaign, “Transforming Africa Through Education,” and support the African Union’s declaration of 2024 as the Year of Education.

The theme, “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century,” highlights the need to integrate technology into foundational education.

Since its launch in 2013, Ecobank Day has initiated crucial interventions and supported various social causes, including education for youth in Africa, malaria prevention, improving ICT in schools, and promoting financial literacy.

Ecobank Nigeria’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians with AI and digital skills training demonstrates its dedication to investing in the future of Africa’s human capital.

The bank plans to expand this initiative to several schools across the state, especially those located far from the city center and serving a higher number of underprivileged students.

This innovative program underscores Ecobank’s commitment to education and digital empowerment, preparing young Nigerians for a brighter future in the digital age.

By harnessing the potential of AI and digital skills, Ecobank Nigeria is shaping the next generation of leaders and change-makers in Africa.
