President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Dayo Mobereola as the new Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). His appointment is for a renewable two-term of four years each.
Dr. Mobereola’s appointment comes after the departure of Dr. Bashir Jamoh, whose first term expired on March 10, 2024 and was not renewed. This follows a trend as Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside’s tenure was also not renewed.
Dr. Mobereola, a former Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), holds a Ph.D. and an M.Sc in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport, England, and Nigeria. With a wealth of experience in the transportation sector, including roles at LAMATA and as Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, Dr. Mobereola is expected to bring his expertise to his new role.
The President has high expectations for him to lead NIMASA in achieving its mandate of ensuring maritime safety, labor regulation, pollution prevention, search and rescue, cabotage enforcement, shipping development, and ship registration.
Dr. Mobereola’s appointment is in line with the policies and programs of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the maritime sector, guided by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
