Dockworkers’ Protest: Marine Police Command Takes Steps to Prevent Disruption

The Marine Police Command has taken swift action to ensure the safety and security of lives and property along the port corridor amidst an ongoing protest staged by aggrieved dockworkers under the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

The protest, which commenced from the Tin Can Island Port, has prompted the Command to deploy its personnel to the scene.

The deployment is aimed at preventing any breakdown of law and order, which could have far-reaching consequences for the economy and the general public.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Maritime Police Command, FHQ Annex, Lagos, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba, has appealed to all parties involved in the protest to exercise restraint and seek amicable resolutions through dialogue and other peaceful means.

AIG Garba reassured stakeholders and other port users that they can go about their daily activities without fear, as the Command will continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The Marine Police Command urges stakeholders and port users to remain calm and carry on with their daily activities, as the Command is working tirelessly to ensure their safety and security.

The Command reiterates its committment to maintaining law and order and protecting critical infrastructure, noting that it will take all necessary steps to prevent any disruption to economic activities.

For further information or to report any incidents, the Command can be reached through its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Adebayo Rasheed, on 07045004639.
