The Project Management Institute (PMI) has commended the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, describing it as a world-class model of excellence in project execution and a demonstration of global project management standards.
A delegation of PMI global board members, led by Chief of Staff to the PMI Global CEO, Lenka Pincot, visited the refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, and praised its scale, precision, and alignment with international benchmarks in project delivery.
Pincot stated that the refinery project is a beautiful example of PMI’s purpose in action, maximizing project success to elevate the world.
She expressed admiration for the refinery’s execution and its transformative impact on the people, Nigeria, and the global energy landscape.
The PMI delegation expressed interest in strengthening collaboration with Dangote Industries, particularly in sharing learning experiences and project insights with PMI’s global community.
Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) Vice President, Oil and Gas, Devakumar Edwi, attributed the success of the refinery project to the company’s strong foundation in structured project management and meticulous planning.
Nglan Niat, Group Chief Human Resource Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, highlighted the company’s investments in developing internal project management capabilities and fostering a culture of excellence.
She mentioned that the company has procured 300 PMI licenses and launched a Project Management Development Program to build internal capacity and embed a culture of disciplined execution, accountability, and efficiency.
The PMI Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, George Asamani, described the refinery as a symbol of visionary leadership, excellence in execution, and Nigeria’s growing project management capability.
The visit underscores the refinery’s significance as a global case study in successful project management, innovation, and impact.
