President Aliko Dangote of the Dangote Group has reaffirmed the international quality standard of products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, dismissing insinuations by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
During a tour of the refinery and petrochemical complex by members of the House of Representatives, Dangote revealed that the refinery has received repeated multiple orders from customers since production began.
He challenged the regulator to compare the quality of refined products from his refinery with those imported, advocating for an impartial assessment.
Dangote stated that the refinery produces the best diesel in Nigeria, with a sulphur content of 87.6 ppm, significantly lower than the ECOWAS-approved limit of 650 ppm.
He noted that imported diesel often comes with dubious certifications and high sulphur content, posing health risks and financial losses for Nigerians.
Vice President of Gas and Oil at Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, highlighted recent actions by European countries like Belgium and the Netherlands, which have imposed bans on high-sulphur diesel exports to West Africa due to carcinogenic effects.
He emphasized that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery conforms to Euro V specifications and international standards.
The Group’s Vice President, Olakunle Alake, expressed disappointment over accusations of monopoly against the Dangote Group, noting that there are multiple players in the industry.
The legislator representing the Speaker of the House of Reps, Abass, expressed concern over the controversy surrounding imported refined products and announced that the Green Chamber would establish a committee to investigate and test sampled products.
The Speaker commended the state-of-the-art technology implemented at the petroleum refinery, praising it as revolutionary and a shining example of engineering and innovation excellence.
He acknowledged the challenges encountered during the construction of the refinery and lauded Dangote for his steadfast commitment to achieving excellence.
Overall, Dangote reaffirmed the international quality standard of products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, challenging the regulator to compare the quality of refined products and advocating for an impartial assessment.
The refinery has received multiple orders from customers since production began and has been recognized as a significant asset in Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency in petroleum products.
