Cyber Security: ISSAN Seeks Enhanced Partnership with EFCC

The Information Security Society of Africa – Nigeria (ISSAN) is calling for a stronger and closer Collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to better protect the cyber space and combat internet fraud and financial crimes in Nigeria.

During a visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, ISSAN’s Vice President, Dr. Martin Ikpehai, praised the EFCC for its efforts in fighting cybercrimes and emphasized the need for a more sustainable approach to tackle cybercriminals operating in the digital space.

Dr. Ikpehai highlighted the prevalence of “yahoo schools” in Nigeria, where individuals are taught cybercrimes, underscoring the importance of collaboration between ISSAN and the EFCC to address this issue.

He also mentioned that ISSAN works closely with security officers of key institutions to educate students and the general public about cyber security, including defending against cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking.

Dr. Ikpehai commended the EFCC for its Eagle Eye app, which has been instrumental in combating internet fraud.

In response, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, expressed appreciation for ISSAN’s focus on cyber security and pledged to enhance collaboration with the Society.

He emphasized the importance of engaging all stakeholders to effectively combat cybercrime and ensure a secure digital ecosystem.

ISSAN has advocated for the establishment of a ‘Nigerian Identity’ System to enhance cyber security measures.

The system would integrate various personal identifiers, such as international passport, phone number, and BVN, to track cybercrime perpetrators more effectively.

Dr. David Isiavwe, ISSAN President, stressed the need for industry operators, law enforcement agencies, and financial regulators to stay ahead of cybercriminal activities.

He emphasized that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

ISSAN, a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding Nigeria’s cyberspace and banking systems, serves as a platform for information exchange and collaboration to ensure a secure payment ecosystem.

ISSAN and the EFCC are committed to working together to combat cybercrimes and protect Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

Collaboration and innovation are key to staying ahead of cyber threats and ensuring a safe online environment for all.
