“We are thrilled by the keen interest shown by schools in the competition, with over 200 schools from across the country already registered.
It promises to be an exhilarating event. We have put everything in place to make it a memorable experience for all participants and stakeholders.
We encourage all Nigerians, especially sports enthusiasts, to come out and support their favorite teams, as a way of motivating young people to strive for excellence,” Adewole remarked.
Highlighting the educational benefits of chess, Adewole emphasized that the game goes beyond mere recreation, as it helps to improve critical thinking, concentration, and problem-solving skills among players.
He also commended chess master Tunde Onakoya for his recent achievement in breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon in New York’s Times Square, underscoring the global recognition of chess as a tool for social inclusion and development.
Adewole urged interested institutions that have not yet registered to do so by sending an email to: nationalschoolsteamchess@gmail.com. “Registration is free of charge. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of this prestigious event.
“It will be a rewarding experience for the participating students, with the chance to not only win prizes but also represent Nigeria at international chess competitions,” he added.
