A 29-year-old female lawyer, Peace Chidinmma Igbo, is facing potential jail time for failing to produce a suspect she stood bail for.
Igbo was brought before an Ebutta-Metta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State on charges of obstructing justice.
According to the charge sheet, Igbo allegedly conspired to prevent or defeat the course of justice by failing to provide Sodiq Kazem, the suspect she stood bail for in a case involving conspiracy, burglary, unlawful entry, stealing, and providing false information. The bail sum was set at N1 million.
The complainant’s lawyer, Olu Akanbi, expressed disappointment in Igbo’s actions, stating that she should have known better.
Akanbi claimed that Igbo was protecting other individuals involved in the matter, using her as a scapegoat. He also praised the FCID police officers for their diligence in handling the case.
Akanbi raised concerns about Igbo’s professional conduct, highlighting that her actions seemed to be shielding others.
It’s alleged that Igbo and Kazem are both staff members of Green Birch Tech Limited and conspired with other staff members now at large.
The matter has been adjourned to May 20, 2025, leaving Igbo’s fate uncertain. If convicted, she risks a jail term under Section 97 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
