FRSC Hails Dangote Cement as Truck Accidents Drop 56%

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended Dangote Cement Transport for achieving significant improvements in road safety through the implementation of new transport safety policies and operational reforms.

The Corps said the company’s initiatives have contributed to a sharp decline in articulated truck crashes across Nigeria, describing Dangote Cement as a model for transport management and road safety practices in Africa.

Speaking during a visit by officials of Dangote Cement Plc to the FRSC Headquarters, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the company for setting high standards in transport safety management and urged the continued implementation of reforms aimed at improving road safety nationwide.

According to comparative data presented during the meeting, road crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks dropped by 56 per cent between 2025 and 2026. Fatalities declined by 36 per cent, while injuries reduced by 52 per cent within the same period.

The Corps Marshal attributed the improvements to the successful implementation of Dangote Cement’s transport safety policies and Gap Analysis framework, describing the measures as worthy of adoption by logistics operators across the continent.

He said the company’s achievements demonstrate how strong corporate commitment to safety can deliver broader national and continental benefits.

Earlier, the Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, Murilo Silva, said the company had continued to invest in advanced transport management systems, including automated inspection technologies and artificial intelligence-driven safety solutions.

Silva explained that Dangote Cement’s long-standing collaboration with the FRSC in transport policy formulation and implementation was now yielding measurable results. He added that the company remained committed to driver recertification and continuous retraining programmes.

Also speaking, the Group Chief HSSE and Sustainability Officer at Dangote Industries Limited, James Adenuga, said the achievements were driven by strong leadership support and sustained investment in innovation.

Adenuga reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuous improvement through reforms, enhanced safety measures, and innovation-driven initiatives aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and compliance with global best practices.

The Lead Fleet Safety Officer, Nigeria, at Dangote Cement Plc, Ozovehe Abraham, disclosed that the company had deployed advanced technologies to monitor driver behaviour in real time.

According to him, the systems help improve compliance with safety standards, detect risky driving patterns early, and support better driver performance management.

He added that Dangote Cement was also strengthening and recalibrating its speed limit policy as part of broader efforts to further reduce road crashes and improve haulage safety.

Members of the company’s delegation to the FRSC Headquarters included Divisional Director of Transport, Hemant Rana; Head of Pre-Trip Inspection, Charles Theophilus; and Jibrin Abubakar.
