The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strengthened its operational and leadership capacity following the graduation of 50 officers from the three-month Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Friday, August 28, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, charged the officers to demonstrate integrity, sound judgment and commitment to national interest in the discharge of their duties.
Adeniyi, who was represented at the event, said effective leadership in modern Customs administration goes beyond rank and routine revenue generation, stressing that competence, fairness, courage and accountability were critical to the Service’s evolving responsibilities.
“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” he said.
The CGC urged the graduating officers to deploy the knowledge and leadership skills acquired during the programme in addressing the increasingly complex operational challenges facing the Service.
Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, commended the officers for their commitment throughout the three-month programme, noting that the institution was undergoing continuous improvements to meet emerging professional and operational demands.
He highlighted ongoing upgrades at the College, including the deployment of digital learning tools and strategic training partnerships with institutions such as the Nigerian Army.
Certificates were presented to all 50 graduating officers, while three outstanding participants received special awards from the Comptroller-General in recognition of their exceptional performance.
The graduation ceremony followed earlier activities, including a regimental dinner held on Wednesday, August 26, where Deputy Comptroller-General Suleiman Chiroma, representing the CGC, urged members of the cohort to demonstrate vigilance, professionalism and decisive leadership as they return to various Customs commands across the country.
The Junior Course 25 is part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s continued investment in manpower development and efforts to strengthen leadership capacity across its operational formations.
