Fidelity Bank Empowers 100 Women in Ogun with Vocational Tools

Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its “Give Her Power” initiative to Ogun State, empowering 100 women with vocational tools aimed at enhancing economic independence and improving household incomes.

The outreach, held in Abeokuta, forms part of the bank’s nationwide rollout of the initiative, which was launched in March 2026 to mark International Women’s Day through partnerships with various organisations.

At the event held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, the bank distributed 50 sewing machines and 50 grinding machines to women engaged in microbusinesses across the state.

The programme attracted market leaders, community stakeholders, and government officials, including the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo.

Speaking at the event, Fidelity Bank’s Regional Bank Head, Southwest 1, Folaranmi Jemirin, said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to practical and sustainable empowerment.

He noted that the programme is designed to create measurable impact by equipping women with tools to grow their businesses and support their families.

“When you empower a woman economically, the benefits extend beyond the individual to the family and the wider community,” he said, adding that the Abeokuta outreach builds on the momentum generated during the initiative’s launch.

Jemirin explained that the programme is driven by the bank’s women-focused platform, HerFidelity, which provides financial literacy, business support, vocational training, mentorship, and wellness services for women entrepreneurs.

He added that Fidelity Bank has scaled similar interventions nationwide, including the distribution of 1,000 vocational tools, rollout of an apprenticeship programme, and organisation of financial literacy sessions and mentorship engagements.

Also speaking, Adeleye-Oladapo described the initiative as a shift from symbolic gestures to tangible empowerment, noting its potential to drive long-term socio-economic impact.

She commended Fidelity Bank for supporting the Ogun State Government’s efforts to advance women’s economic development and urged beneficiaries to utilise the equipment effectively to improve their livelihoods.

Fidelity Bank said the “Give Her Power” initiative underscores its broader commitment to promoting inclusive growth by supporting individuals, businesses, and communities through targeted empowerment programmes.

The bank serves over 10 million customers through its digital platforms, business offices across Nigeria, and its United Kingdom subsidiary. It has received several awards for innovation, digital banking, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
