“Journalism should be practiced with fairness and justice in any given society; as the society looks up to them as true custodians of the realm of the Fourth Estate.” – Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, President-General, MWUN.
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) at its national secretariat in Lagos.
The AMJON delegation, led by its Vice President, Vera Osokpor, congratulated the new leadership of MWUN under Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, the newly elected President-General of the Union.
The AMJON delegation comprised: Segun Oladipupo, Secretary; Ugochukwu Ezurike, Asst. Secretary; Barnabas Esiet, Treasurer; Tedunjaye Raymond, Financial Secretary; Uzor Odigbo, PRO; and Rhoda Ogunseye, Welfare Officer.
The AMJON executives expressed solidarity with Comrade Bunu’s dynamic leadership and pledged to work with him to support the maritime sector.
They described Comrade Bunu as a press-friendly labour leader who does not speak with both sides of his mouth.
In response, Comrade Bunu thanked AMJON for their visit and promised his continued support for the journalists.
He emphasized the importance of synergy between the Union and the Press, noting that the Union cannot operate in isolation without the reportage of journalists.
Comrade Bunu also urged journalists to practice their profession with fairness and justice, balancing their reportage and avoiding unnecessary sensationalism.
He thanked AMJON for the visit and assured them that the Union’s door is always open to strengthen their working relationship.
