Aliko Dangote’s Wealth Surges to $23.9 Billion, Ranked 86th Richest Globally

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has seen his wealth nearly double to $23.9 billion, according to Forbes.

This significant increase has propelled Dangote to the 86th position on the global billionaires’ list, solidifying his status as the wealthiest person in Africa.

Dangote’s net worth is primarily attributed to his 92.3% stake in Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals.

The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone, began operations last year after an 11-year construction period and a $23 billion investment. With a capacity to process 650,000 barrels per day, the refinery is set to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape.

The refinery’s impact is already being felt, with Nigeria’s petroleum imports expected to reach an eight-year low. Additionally, the country has become a net exporter of jet fuel, naphtha, and fuel oil.

Dangote’s vision is to establish Nigeria as a major producer of refined petroleum products, enabling the country to compete with European refineries.

Dangote’s success has earned him widespread recognition, with many Nigerians viewing him as a hero and a pioneering industrialist.

According to Zainab Usman, director of the Africa Programme at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, “He is seen in most parts of Nigeria as a hero. He is seen as a real industrialist who builds things.”

Professor Chika Ezeanya of Soka University of America echoed this sentiment, stating, “I think he’s believed staunchly in the fact that Nigerians need products that he has to offer.”

Dangote’s remarkable achievement serves as a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to transforming Nigeria’s economy.

As he continues to drive industrialization across Africa, his legacy as a visionary business leader is cemented.
