The Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched the distribution of 80,000 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable individuals in Lagos State.
This initiative is part of the foundation’s goal to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice to reach one million vulnerable people across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Representing Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and Chairman of the foundation, Hajiya Marya Dangote emphasized the foundation’s commitment to upholding values of compassion and solidarity.
The distribution is in addition to the daily distribution of thousands of loaves of bread in Lagos.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised Dangote for prioritizing Nigerians’ welfare above profit.
“Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian that has chosen to be different… caring for the vulnerable,” Sanwo-Olu said. He encouraged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s kindness.
The rice distribution supports the Lagos State government’s initiative to address economic hardship. The state also has a food initiative program, Ounje Eko, which subsidizes food prices for buyers.
Dangote noted that the foundation is committed to nutrition and has made significant strides in food fortification.
The Group promotes food fortification within the Nigerian food industry and explores fortification methods for staples like rice and wheat.
