The Aliko Dangote Foundation and the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR) have donated a total of N2 billion to aid the victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation and PCFRR, presented the donation during an on-the-spot inspection of the affected areas.
Dangote expressed his empathy for the victims and urged other Nigerians and stakeholders to provide support. He described the flooding as “mind boggling” and emphasized the need for urgent intervention.
The donation aims to alleviate the suffering of the victims and support the rebuilding of infrastructure.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, appreciated Dangote’s support and called on others to emulate his charitable contributions.
The flood has displaced over a million residents, with 30 confirmed deaths. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has evacuated thousands of persons and established camps for the displaced.
This donation is not the first instance of Dangote’s philanthropy. In 2022, the Dangote-led PCFRR distributed relief materials worth N1.5 billion to flood victims nationwide.
The PCFRR was established by the Federal Government in 2012 to respond to flooding disasters.
Through his foundation and the PCFRR, Dangote continues to demonstrate his commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and alleviating the impact of natural disasters in Nigeria
