The Akwa Ibom State branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) is gearing up to commemorate the 2024 World Human Rights Day on Tuesday, December 10.
This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” will take center stage as the organization engages citizens across the state on human rights issues.
According to Comrade Ndifreke Afangide, State Chairman of CDHR Akwa Ibom State branch, the organization aims to promote awareness and advocacy for human rights in the state.
To achieve this, CDHR has planned a sensitization rally in all local governments to engage citizens on the critical theme.
The organization will also present its human rights position paper to the Governor and the Commissioner of Police during a brief stopover at the Government House and police command.
This move is designed to foster collaboration and ensure that human rights issues are given the attention they deserve.
As a non-governmental organization, CDHR has been a leading voice in human rights activism in Nigeria since its inception in 1989.
The organization remains committed to being the voice for the voiceless and promoting human rights awareness across the state.
The 2024 World Human Rights Day celebration presents an opportunity for CDHR to reiterate its commitment to human rights advocacy and engage citizens on critical issues affecting their lives.
By doing so, the organization hopes to inspire a sense of responsibility among Akwa Ibom citizens to demand their rights and promote a culture of human rights awareness in the State.
