Ecobank Nigeria has expressed its commitment to promoting African heritage and creativity through its support of the “Fela Kuti: Afrobeat Rebellion” exhibition.
The event, held at the Ecobank Pan African Centre in Lagos, celebrates the life, music, activism, and enduring influence of legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
According to Omoboye Edu, Head of SME at Ecobank Nigeria, hosting the exhibition aligns with the bank’s mission to showcase the continent’s creative energy.
“We are proud to celebrate Fela’s legacy and the vibrant spirit of Afrobeat in a space that inspires dialogue, imagination, and progress,” she said.
The three-month exhibition features live music performances, including those by Ezra Collective and Seun Kuti, which set the tone for a season of artistic exploration inspired by Fela’s Afrobeat revolution.
The exhibition also includes a thought-leadership series, “The Talks,” featuring Yeni Kuti, Prof. Oyeronke Oyewumi, Falana, Ade Bantu, Minna Salami, and Kadaria Ahmed.
Additionally, the exhibition showcases a film series, “Kalakuta Cinema,” curated by S16 Collective, featuring films like “Music is a Weapon,” “Mami Wata,” “Timbuktu,” and “Finding Fela.”
For younger audiences, the “Young Rebels’ Corner” offers an engaging creative hub with workshops like “Rebel Scrapbook,” “Jam Station,” and “Anikulapo Design Workshop.”
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Ecobank for its support of Nigeria’s creative industry, noting that the bank understands the power of art and culture to drive economic development.
Laurent Favier, Consul General of France in Nigeria, described the exhibition as an inspiring blend of cultural diplomacy and artistic reclamation.
The exhibition runs until December 28, 2025, and is open to the public. By supporting this event, Ecobank reinforces its commitment to empowering art and culture, driving economic growth, and promoting African heritage.
