The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been accused of exploitation and negligence by the residents of Umudi Jikwoyi Phase III, Abuja, due to its failure to provide a reliable power supply.
The community has suffered from prolonged periAbuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)ods of darkness, disrupting businesses, homes, and lives.
The troubles began when the community’s transformer was damaged, allegedly due to AEDC’s negligence.
Despite numerous complaints, it took the company two months to replace the transformer with a refurbished unit, which was installed without connecting it to the power grid for three weeks.
The community protested, and AEDC eventually reconnected the transformer, but it failed again after just two weeks.
Now, the transformer has been away for over three weeks, with no information from AEDC.
The community is frustrated and feels exploited by AEDC’s negligence and lack of concern for their welfare.
To add to the problem, AEDC claimed that the transformer was purchased with N18 million, and some community members still owe them a refund.
However, some individuals worked with AEDC to recover 80% of the claimed debt, yet the community still suffers from darkness.
The residents of Umudi Jikwoyi Phase III demand prompt action from AEDC to replace the damaged transformer with a new one and ensure a stable power supply.
They urge the authorities to hold AEDC accountable for their exploitation and negligence.
If AEDC fails to act within the next two weeks, the community has threatened to take drastic measures, including organizing mass protests, involving local and national media, and seeking legal action against AEDC for breach of contract and negligence.
The community spokesperson warned, “AEDC must take immediate action to address the community’s concerns and provide a reliable power supply.
“Failure to do so will result in severe consequences, including damage to their reputation and financial losses.
“The community will no longer tolerate AEDC’s exploitation and negligence. It’s time for AEDC to take responsibility and act.”
