The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has signed a N1.5 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bayero University Kano (BUK) to provide scholarship support for postgraduate students of the Dangote Business School.
The agreement, signed on Tuesday at the Business School’s main auditorium in Kano, provides ₦300 million annually over a five-year period to support eligible MBA, entrepreneurship, and management postgraduate students.
Under the MoU, each beneficiary will receive ₦150,000 per academic session beginning from the 2024/2025 session. The amount represents 50 per cent of the current ₦300,000 tuition fee paid by postgraduate students.
The Dangote Business School currently has 1,225 students, comprising 696 fresh and 529 returning students.
The MoU was jointly signed by a member of the ADF Board of Trustees, Mariya Aliko Dangote, on behalf of the Foundation’s Chairman, Aliko Dangote, and the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Haruna Musa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dangote – represented by Mariya Aliko Dangote – said the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s vision of building human capital that translates into economic opportunity.
“Strengthening business and entrepreneurship education is critical to turning knowledge into enterprise, innovation, and jobs. This scholarship deepens our commitment to Dangote Business School by investing directly in the next generation of business leaders and change-makers,” he stated.
In his remarks, Prof. Musa described the intervention as timely, noting that it would provide financial relief to families while strengthening the Business School’s role in developing entrepreneurial and management talent, particularly among women.
A postgraduate student, Khalid Bababubu, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the Foundation, describing education as the bedrock of national development and pledging that recipients would make good use of the opportunity.
The initiative, titled the ‘MHF Dangote Graduate Business Scholarship,’ marks a shift in the Foundation’s long-standing partnership with the Business School – from infrastructure support to direct investment in students and enterprise leadership development.
The scholarship programme is separate from ADF’s recently announced nationwide STEM education interventions, which focus on science and technology pathways at secondary and undergraduate levels.
In contrast, the Dangote Business School scholarship is a postgraduate, institution-based investment aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship, management capacity, and enterprise leadership.
Since the Dangote Business School complex was commissioned in 2018, the Foundation has supported facility maintenance.
The new intervention represents a deliberate transition from infrastructure development to direct human capital investment.
The programme covers both newly admitted and returning students. While new students will benefit from automatic tuition reductions during registration, returning students who have already paid their fees in full will receive rebates.
Any unutilised funds in the first year will be retained within the school’s development envelope to enhance learning infrastructure and digital academic capacity.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation focuses on strategic investments that improve health and wellbeing, promote quality education, and expand empowerment opportunities, while Bayero University Kano remains one of Nigeria’s leading higher institutions, with its Dangote Business School serving as a centre of excellence for postgraduate business education.
