Nigeria Customs Service Warns of Fake Facebook Accounts and Phone Scams

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a public warning regarding the presence of fake Facebook accounts impersonating the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada.

These fraudulent accounts, which are not affiliated with the NCS, are being used to scam unsuspecting individuals by sharing false contact details for illegal activities.

To identify the genuine Facebook page of the National PRO, the public is advised to look for the blue verification badge.

The NCS has also alerted the public to a specific phone number, +234 706 301 0692, being used by a fraudster to defraud individuals using the name of the National PRO.

The NCS emphasizes that this phone number is not associated with the Service or the National PRO. To avoid falling victim to these scams, the public is urged to verify all information through the NCS’s official channels.

A statement from the Customs urged members of the public to:

– Check the NCS’s official website and social media channels for authentic information.

– Report Suspicious Activity, Inform Meta and the relevant authorities about fake profiles and fraudulent activities.

– Be wary of unsolicited messages or calls claiming to be from the NCS or its officials.

The NCS restated its commitment to protecting the public and ensuring the integrity of its operations.
