NASENI Pledges to Double Number of Nigerian Female Engineers Over Next 5 Years

NASENI is planning to increase the number of female engineers in Nigeria over the next five years with the introduction of the “Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her” (DELT-Her) initiative.

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, announced this during the official launch of DELT-Her at NASENI Headquarters in Abuja, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

“DELT-Her, a part of the Delta-2 program, aims to reduce the gender gap in engineering, inspire the next generation of female engineers, provide financial support for new projects, and strengthen the engineering ecosystem.

“NASENI will collaborate with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT) to fund innovative engineering ideas pitched by girls and young women. He said.

Halilu stressed the importance of increasing female representation in engineering, as currently, only five percent of Nigerian engineers are women.

The goal is to double this number within the next five years by focusing on secondary education and raising awareness about the need to mentor and train more women in engineering.

Dr. Mohammed Dahiru, Chairman of PICTT, expressed the committee’s dedication to supporting women in engineering and technology, while Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, emphasized the significance of unlocking the full potential of women in engineering.

Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi and other dignitaries at the event pledged their support for women in the engineering and science sectors, ensuring they are given equal opportunities in society.

The launch of DELT-Her signifies a new beginning in empowering women in engineering and technology, aiming to create more opportunities for female engineers in Nigeria.
