The Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama, is set to play a key role at the upcoming 3rd National Conference organized by Oriental News Nigeria.
He will be examining important policies and options available in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance its national economy while aligning with the global push for promoting a green economy.
The event is scheduled to take place on July 25th, 2024, at Radisson Blue GRA Ikeja, Lagos at 9 am.
Oriental News Nigeria, a leading digital media platform, will bring together key policymakers, government and non-governmental organizations, and industry experts in Nigeria’s financial sector for the conference focusing on Nigeria’s Green Economy Initiative.
The theme of the 2024 Conference, “Green Economy, Sustainable Growth, and Infrastructure Transformation,” explores various options for Nigeria to sustain economic development and growth.
Sub-themes of the conference include Green Finance, marketing, and supply chain, Strategies and Policies for a green economy, Renewable energy and Ecosystem for a green economy, and Digital economy Entrepreneurship.
Agama, who has confirmed his participation, believes that opportunities in the green economy are linked to the vast potential for sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, ecotourism, and coastal development.
Other stakeholders have also emphasized that Nigeria’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources could position the country as a leader in promoting green economy development, hence the choice of the conference theme.
The conference will be divided into two main segments, with the opening program addressing the key thematic topic through guest speakers’ interventions and chairman’s remarks, followed by comments from participants focusing on the conference theme.
The second segment will involve a round-table discussion with select professionals engaging in a wider discussion on the main theme and sub-themes of the conference.
In recent years, global economies have faced challenges such as economic slowdowns, environmental degradation, and global warming.
Transitioning to a green economy can help boost natural capital stocks, protect the environment, and promote social justice.
However, challenges such as a lack of appropriate policy frameworks, inadequate capital expenditure, and varying levels of development and resource endowments need to be addressed for successful green sustainable development.
The conference aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss practices and policies for a green economy and sustainable growth through strategic change.
It will also provide a platform for academic peers to exchange information, collaborate, and develop solutions to pressing business issues.
