Fidelity Bank Donates School Packs to Over 600 Pupils in Plateau

Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to educational development and community empowerment with the donation of back-to-school packs to over 600 pupils across Plateau State.

The initiative, which took place in Jos, benefited randomly selected pupils from all 17 local government areas of the state. Each beneficiary received a school bag containing exercise books, writing materials, a mathematical set and a water bottle to support their academic pursuits.

The outreach was facilitated by staff of Fidelity Bank’s University of Jos Branch under the bank’s Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that enables employees to identify and fund impactful community projects, with management providing matching contributions to expand their reach.

Speaking during the presentation, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, described education as a critical tool for national development and emphasized the bank’s commitment to investing in young people.

According to him, education equips children with the knowledge, confidence and opportunities required to contribute meaningfully to society, adding that the initiative reflects Fidelity Bank’s broader commitment to social impact and sustainable community development.

Nwagboh encouraged the pupils to remain focused on their studies, noting that their aspirations are achievable and that the future of Nigeria depends on well-educated and determined young people.

Also speaking, Branch Leader of Fidelity Bank’s University of Jos Branch, Mr. Shunom Leo, said the programme was more than a donation of educational materials, describing it as a deliberate investment in the future of Plateau State.

“This is more than a donation of school items. It is a deliberate investment in the future of Plateau State and in the promise these children represent,” Leo said, adding that Fidelity Bank remains committed to initiatives that improve lives, support education and strengthen communities across Nigeria.

Representing Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ms. Caroline Dafur, commended Fidelity Bank and the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office for what she described as a timely intervention.

She said the distribution of school bags and learning materials was an investment in the future of Plateau children and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to prioritizing education, healthcare, social protection and child welfare.

Project Coordinator of the Plateau State SDGs Office, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, also praised Fidelity Bank for partnering with the agency to positively impact the lives of children.

She noted that the initiative demonstrated the value of collaboration in addressing societal challenges and expressed hope that more organizations would emulate the bank’s example by supporting their host communities.

Similarly, Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Sunday Amuna, described the intervention as a foundation-laying effort that would yield long-term benefits for the beneficiaries.

He stated that the quality of support provided to children today would significantly influence their future success and commended Fidelity Bank for making a meaningful contribution to their educational development.

The outreach also included physically challenged children with varying degrees of disability, underscoring the bank’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities.

Through the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme, Fidelity Bank continues to promote education, empower communities and support sustainable development initiatives across Nigeria.
