The NIMASA chief described the engagement as a reflection of the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and Liberia, particularly in the maritime sector.

He stressed that stronger collaboration among African countries is essential to unlocking the continent’s maritime potential, advancing the Blue Economy, and promoting sustainable regional development.

According to Mobereola, enhanced maritime cooperation between Nigeria and Liberia would help build capacity, strengthen regional partnerships, and create opportunities for young Africans in the global maritime industry.

He emphasized the need for African nations to collectively develop maritime expertise beyond national boundaries, noting that sea-time training and practical exposure would equip Nigerian and African youths with the skills needed to compete effectively in the international maritime sector.

The NIMASA Director-General also commended the Liberian government for supporting Nigeria’s successful bid for a Category C seat on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, describing the gesture as evidence of the productive relationship both countries have maintained over the years.

Speaking earlier, Akinosun said the visit was aimed at reinforcing the enduring ties between Nigeria and Liberia while exploring opportunities for deeper maritime cooperation.

He described the maritime sector as a critical driver of economic growth, regional integration, and Blue Economy development, and praised NIMASA’s management for its efforts to reposition Nigeria’s maritime industry for sustainable growth and increased investment.

Akinosun noted that Liberia looked forward to expanding collaboration with NIMASA in maritime administration, safety, capacity development, and trade promotion, adding that such partnerships would contribute significantly to the advancement of Africa’s Blue Economy and regional prosperity.
