The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated members of the National Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Council as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internet infrastructure and promote the adoption of next-generation internet protocols.
The inauguration ceremony, held on April 23, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel Ikeja, brought together key stakeholders in the country’s digital ecosystem, including industry experts, regulators, and representatives of internet governance bodies.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, highlighted the importance of IPv6 adoption in supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy, noting that the transition from IPv4 is critical for expanding internet access and enabling emerging technologies.
Also present at the event were the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services at the NCC, Engr. Abraham Oshadami, and the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Barr. Rimini Makama.
The newly inaugurated council includes the National President of the IPv6 Council, Muhammed Rudman, the National Vice President, Dr. Chris Uwaje, as well as council members such as Tony Emoekpere and Adesola Akinsanya, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA).
The NCC said the council will play a critical role in promoting awareness, capacity building, and policy support for IPv6 deployment across Nigeria, in line with global best practices for internet development.
