The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled a Green Channel initiative at the Lekki Deep Sea Port as part of measures to streamline cargo clearance, reduce delays, and enhance operational efficiency at the nation’s ports.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, launched the initiative on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, describing it as a significant milestone in the Service’s drive to boost trade facilitation through technology and stronger stakeholder collaboration.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Adeniyi explained that the Green Channel was introduced by the management of Lekki Deep Sea Port and subsequently approved by NCS management to tackle persistent challenges associated with container stacking and examination at major ports, which often delay cargo processing.

He said the intervention enables containers to be moved directly from vessels to a dedicated location where importers can access them with minimal hindrance.
According to him, the movement of containers from the vessel to the designated area is digitally tracked to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.
The Comptroller-General noted that the Green Channel is designed to create a seamless corridor for cargo movement, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and improving turnaround time for port users.

He emphasised that the success of the initiative depends on sustained compliance and mutual trust between Customs and stakeholders.
Adeniyi further stated that beyond improving port efficiency, the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic objective of fostering a more competitive and business-friendly trade environment.

He added that the initiative is expected to lower the cost and time of doing business while enhancing revenue generation for the Service.
