Customs Builds Strategic Partnerships to Tackle Smuggling in Oyo/Osun

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified efforts to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and traditional institutions through a series of strategic courtesy and familiarisation visits.

The initiative, which took place on February 10, 2026, is aimed at enhancing security, improving intelligence sharing and fostering mutual cooperation among key stakeholders within the state.

As part of the engagement, the Operational Headquarters of the Command hosted the Nigerian Air Force Works Station, Ibadan, led by Air Commodore D.U. Njoku. The delegation was received by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, alongside principal officers of the Command.

During the visit, Air Commodore Njoku stressed the need for sustained inter-agency synergy in addressing emerging security threats and protecting national interests. He noted that collaboration among security agencies is crucial in tackling smuggling, economic sabotage and other transborder crimes.

In his remarks, Deputy Comptroller Adewole expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force for the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening existing partnerships. He stated that the Nigeria Customs Service remains focused on its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security, adding that cooperation with sister agencies enhances operational efficiency.

The Acting Controller also paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, where he was received by the Deputy Comptroller of Immigration on behalf of the State Controller, DC VC Oyeaka. Discussions centred on boosting intelligence sharing, coordinated border management and proactive measures to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

In furtherance of stakeholder engagement, Adewole visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, acknowledging the role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and supporting lawful trade.

The visit underscored the importance of grassroots collaboration in promoting community-based security initiatives and creating an enabling environment for economic growth.

The Oyo/Osun Area Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain productive relationships with security agencies, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to ensure effective discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
