TUC Women Wing Rallies Stakeholders to Tackle Digital Violence During 2025 Activism Campaign

The Lagos State Council of the Trade Union Congress Women Commission (TUCWC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding women and girls from all forms of violence, particularly online abuse, as it marked the 2025 edition of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The event, held at Queens College Hall, Yaba, centred on the theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

It brought together representatives of government agencies, labour unions, advocacy groups, educators and students to address the rising incidence of cyberbullying, online harassment and image-based abuse.

Declaring the programme open, Chairperson of TUCWC Lagos State, Comrade Ololade Gbajumo, emphasised the shared responsibility of both boys and girls in promoting safe and respectful online environments.

She also moderated the panel discussion, which explored emerging threats and practical solutions for protecting vulnerable groups in the digital space.

Key officials in attendance included representatives of the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA); and the National Chairperson of TUCWC, represented by Comrade Veronica.

Their participation underscored the multi-sector collaboration needed to tackle digital and physical forms of abuse.

The panel featured contributions from Lawal Pedro (SAN), represented by Babatola; community leader Sunday Nnadi; Regalo Hope Foundation Project Director, Chinenye Onuorah; Montessori educator, Victoria Godwin-Ejeh; DSVA representative, Bunmi Orekoya; and Director of Education, Federal Government College Ijanikin, Doyin Ogundipe.

Speakers highlighted the psychological and social impact of online violence and shared strategies for prevention, early reporting and digital literacy across homes, schools and workplaces.

The TUCWC Lagos State EXCO, union women representatives, NLC Women Commission Lagos, and Evolve Charity were recognised for their support.

Five participating schools were also commended for enabling students to join the advocacy effort, which organisers described as crucial in shaping a safer digital future.

The programme concluded with a strong call to action, urging stakeholders to implement concrete safety measures and to champion respectful, inclusive and secure online communities for women and girls.
