Customs Boss Adeniyi Elected President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Pledges to Drive Reforms

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi has emerged as the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), further cementing his record of service and leadership excellence.

Adeniyi was elected during the federation’s elective congress held on October 25, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The election, supervised by the National Sports Commission, drew commendation from athletes and sports administrators nationwide, who described the outcome as timely and strategic for Nigerian sports.

As the new President of NWF, Adeniyi has pledged to prioritise structure, integrity, athlete development, and innovation in the sport’s management. He emphasised the importance of aligning the Federation’s vision with national sports reforms.

Before venturing into wrestling administration, Adeniyi had already made significant contributions to Nigeria’s sporting ecosystem.

Under his leadership, the Customs Sports Unit has become a formidable institution in sports development, producing champions, Olympians, and role models across various disciplines.

Adeniyi expressed his commitment to expanding the reach of wrestling through stronger sponsorships and inclusive administration.

He also emphasised the need for grassroots expansion, transparent administration, and prioritising female participation, capacity development for coaches, and international exposure for athletes competing in African and world championships.

The newly elected NWF President will work with a team of board members to drive reforms and improve the sport in Nigeria.

Stakeholders have welcomed Adeniyi’s emergence, describing it as a fresh start for the federation.
