Fidelity Bank Distributes 2,000 Food Packs to Abeokuta Residents

Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to support vulnerable households and promote food security across Nigeria.

The donation was made under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative during an outreach held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank, said the initiative had provided more than 300,000 food packs to beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since its launch in 2023.

Jemirin said the programme was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to achieve Zero Hunger, while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities where it operates.

“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development,” he said.

He explained that the Food Bank Initiative goes beyond immediate relief, noting that it seeks to restore hope, strengthen families and contribute to the wellbeing of vulnerable members of society.

Jemirin added that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta extend beyond food distribution to areas including education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment and social welfare.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the Catholic Diocese and other partners to the success of the outreach.

Receiving the food packs on behalf of beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued support for vulnerable communities.

Olagbaju described the initiative as a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to community development and humanitarian support, particularly through partnerships with religious and community institutions.

Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has become a major component of the bank’s corporate social responsibility programmes, providing food assistance to vulnerable households across the country through partnerships with religious organisations, community groups and other stakeholders.

The bank said the initiative would continue to support efforts aimed at reducing hunger and promoting inclusive development across its host communities.
