By Newsshelve correspondent.

The bank’s Global Markets and Treasury team recorded 140.6% growth in trading volumes and retained its No. 1 position in bonds and Treasury Bills trading.

Coronation Merchant Bank has been named Nigeria’s Best Sales and Trading Team at the Euromoney Markets Awards 2026, in recognition of its performance in the fixed-income market and contribution to the development of the country’s financial markets.

The award, presented at a ceremony held recently at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, United Kingdom, recognised the bank’s Global Markets and Treasury franchise for its delivery of fixed-income market solutions, liquidity provision and execution services to institutional investors.

The bank serves institutional clients, including brokers, pension fund administrators, asset managers and financial institutions, providing access to investment instruments such as Eurobonds, domestic bonds and Treasury Bills.

According to the bank, its performance improved significantly over the past year, with trading volumes increasing by 140.6 per cent year-on-year and annual income growing by 65.81 per cent.

The bank also retained its No. 1 position in bonds and Treasury Bills trading on the FMDQ fixed-income league table, while moving into the overall top 10 in 2025 and breaking into the top three in January 2026.

Its active institutional client base expanded from 43 at the end of the first half of 2025 to 50 by year-end, while the proportion of orders meeting client benchmarks rose from 90 per cent to 95 per cent.

The bank further reported an improvement in the accuracy and timeliness of transaction processing, which increased from 89 per cent to 96 per cent.

Commenting on the recognition, Obeahon Ohiwerei, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Coronation Merchant Bank, said the award reflected the strength of the bank’s Global Markets and Treasury business and the confidence clients had placed in its services.

He said the bank had remained focused on delivering efficient execution, market expertise and innovative solutions to help clients navigate changing market conditions.

“Our progress on the FMDQ league tables and the growth in client activity demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach,” Ohiwerei said.

He added that the bank remained committed to supporting the development and efficiency of Nigeria’s financial markets.

Ronald Nwaezeapu, Divisional Head, Global Markets and Treasury, said the award reflected the team’s emphasis on client service, execution efficiency and continuous improvement.

According to him, the bank strengthened its pricing framework, deepened client engagement and invested in technology to improve the speed, efficiency and scalability of its operations.

These initiatives, he said, enabled the team to deliver greater value to clients while maintaining operational discipline and effective controls.

The bank also attributed its performance to market research and adjustments to its trading strategies during periods of declining industry-wide trading volumes.

By assessing competitor pricing, liquidity patterns and client behaviour, the team refined its pricing approach, improved execution support and strengthened relationships with institutional clients.

Coronation Merchant Bank said its fixed-income transactions were executed through Bloomberg and regulated through the FMDQ platform, with settlement details independently verified against FMDQ data before being posted to client accounts.

Continuous reconciliations and collaboration among the Treasury Sales, Trading, Treasury Operations, Compliance and Reconciliation teams also helped maintain the accuracy of client records and market positions.

The Euromoney Markets Awards selection process involved written submissions, market research, interviews with market participants and independent analysis of the institutions and teams considered for recognition.

Ohiwerei and Nwaezeapu represented Coronation Merchant Bank at the 2026 awards ceremony.

Established in 2015, Coronation Merchant Bank provides corporate and investment banking, private banking and wealth management, as well as global markets and treasury services.

The bank operates branches in Abuja and Port Harcourt, with its head office in Lagos. It also describes itself as the first and only merchant bank in Nigeria to hold an international risk rating, with a B- rating from Fitch.
