AMJON Fixes April 30 for Conference on Smart Port Solutions

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that its second-quarter conference will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.

The conference, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., will centre on the theme, “Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology,” with stakeholders from across the maritime industry expected to participate.

According to the organisers, the event will convene key players from both the public and private sectors to deliberate on strategies for improving port operations and enhancing Nigeria’s economic potential.

It will also provide a platform to examine the impact of technological advancements on seaport efficiency, while fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the industry.

Discussions are expected to address longstanding operational challenges affecting major ports, including those in Warri, Calabar, and Port Harcourt.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, AMJON was described as a leading body of maritime journalists spanning print, electronic, and online media platforms.

He noted that the association’s conferences have consistently served as credible forums for addressing critical issues in maritime development and national economic growth.

Tedunjaiye added that resolutions reached at the conference would be documented and forwarded to relevant government authorities for consideration and possible implementation.

Key government agencies expected at the event include the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Nigeria Police Force. Representatives of maritime labour unions and terminal operators are also expected to attend.

Dignitaries anticipated at the conference include the Comptroller-General of Customs, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Director-General of NIMASA, senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as well as industry leaders and port managers.

A major highlight of the event will be an awards segment recognising individuals and organisations for their contributions to the development of the maritime sector.

Speaking on the significance of the conference, AMJON President, Vera Osokpo, said the gathering is designed to tackle pressing issues within the industry.

She emphasised the growing role of technology in port operations, noting that infrastructural challenges such as poor road networks, limited rail connectivity, and unreliable power supply continue to hinder efficiency.

Osokpo further stated that discussions would explore trade facilitation measures aimed at improving operational efficiency without compromising security, alongside the adoption of automation, smart port technologies, and the digital transformation of port processes.

She reaffirmed AMJON’s commitment to promoting dialogue and collaboration within Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sector, assuring participants of insightful sessions, expert-led discussions, and opportunities for strategic partnerships.
