MWUN Praises Orion Marine, Sea Transport Managements Over Sailors’ Remuneration

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has commended the managements of Orion Marine Services Limited and Seatransport Ltd for their unprecedented increment of salaries for sailors, following a new review of remunerations in compliance with the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) workbook.

MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, praised both managements for prioritizing the welfare of their employees, emphasizing that happy workers lead to optimum satisfaction in the sector.

The Union signed the NJIC agreements with both companies, situated in Apapa, Lagos, which have set a good example for other companies in the maritime sector.

The MWUN is calling on other companies in the sector to emulate Orion and Seatransport in paying worthy salaries, warning that defaulting companies will face the wrath of the Union and be reported to the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

By complying with the NJIC workbook, both companies have demonstrated their commitment to the welfare of their employees, and the Union hopes that others will follow suit.
